In 2022, the volume of remittances to Uzbekistan from abroad increased by 2.1 times hitting 16.9 billion dollars. The Chairman of CBU, Mamarizo Nurmuratov informed during the briefing.
According to the money regulator, 85 percent of the transfers, or about 14.5 billion dollars, is from Russia. This is 2.6 times more than in 2021.
Because of the cash shortages in Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, the citizens of these countries transferred foreign currency to Uzbekistan and withdrew cash through the Uzbek banks.
The volume of remittances from Uzbekistan to other countries increased by 29% and amounted to 2.1 billion dollars. Uzbeks mainly made money transfers to countries such as Turkey, China, the USA and India. According to the head of the regulator, there is almost no change among these countries.
In the first 6 months of 2022, remittances of 6.54 billion dollars were received in Uzbekistan. At that time, the growth rate was 2.2 times.
