Opponents of the visa-free regime with China took to the rally in Almaty, on the Day of Unity of the People of Kazakhstan. They gathered in the central park of culture and recreation, but the police were already on duty at the supposed gathering place, Daryo correspondent from Astana reports.
The protesters opposed cooperation with China. One participant of the rally on the poster said: “There is no road for China on Kazakh soil.”
The police detained about 10 people but did not explain the reason. The Interior Ministry did not comment on the incident. Well-known opposition leader of the current government, Mukhtar Ablyazov, earlier called on the people of Kazakhstan to go to the rally at the indicated place.
Daryo's correspondent asked some Kazakhstanis about their attitude to the visa-free regime of Kazakhstan and China. Citizens reacted in different ways, but most reportedly do not mind.
“I think it's very good. Because if I want to open my own business, it will be easier for me to go there and negotiate directly with the manufacturer, without intermediaries. Therefore, it will be easier, because you can establish relationships with suppliers, already personal turns out, and not through intermediaries. I think that this will be a big plus for entrepreneurship in Kazakhstan,” Margarita Bondar shared her opinion.
“I think that this is good because now there is no need for complexities with documents. Now all you need is a passport and an identity card. This will have a very good effect on the economy, of both Kazakhstan and China. Firstly, Kazakhstan, because it will be easier to cooperate with such a great power as China,” Raimbek Kozhakhanov.
But one of the respondents believes quite the opposite.
“I am against it because there is a shortage of brides in China. They will come to us and start seducing our girls,” explained Saniya Nabiyeva.
For information, the authorities of Kazakhstan and China intend to introduce a mutual visa-free regime. Citizens of both countries will be able to stay without a visa for no more than 30 days from the moment of crossing the border and 90 days for a 180-day period. A visa-free regime is allowed for tourist, private, and business trips.
