The Tajikistan government has approved new regulations for the burial of terrorists killed in terrorist attacks or counter-terrorism operations, stating that their bodies will not be handed over to their relatives, "Ozodi" reports.
Although the document was received on April 28 and registered by the Ministry of Justice on May 5, it has not been published in official sources. However, "Ozodi" obtained a copy of the government's decision on May 22.
Under the new rules, local authorities and burial service organizations must bury the bodies of terrorists at the location designated by investigative bodies. The bodies are placed in closed coffins, and the burial site must not be disclosed to anyone.
The burial book will not include the terrorist's personal information such as name, date of birth, or grave number. It only records the date of burial, the issuer of the death certificate, and the name and address of the organization responsible for the burial.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan informs the diplomatic missions or consular institutions of relevant countries about the deaths of foreign nationals and stateless individuals killed in counter-terrorism operations.
Previously, the authorities allowed the burial of individuals killed during anti-terrorist operations, with a limited number of relatives attending the ceremony. The transportation of bodies from the morgue to the cemetery was supervised by law enforcement agencies.
The Tajik government has been criticized by international human rights organizations and Western countries for alleged repression of civil society activists and dissidents under the pretext of combating extremism and terrorism.
