The European Union does not recognize the rule of the "Taliban" in Afghanistan, said the President of the European Council, Charles Michel, on June 2 at a meeting with the leaders of the Central Asian countries in Cholponota.
He noted the need for Central Asian and European Union countries to fight against terrorism.
Speaking about the situation in Afghanistan, Michel said that the Central Asian countries helped in setting priorities in this matter. He noted that the European Union will provide humanitarian aid to Afghanistan.
"You know, the European Union does not recognize the Taliban government, because we support the protection of women's rights. We will do everything for Afghanistan to fulfill its international obligations," he said.
Michel also said that he wants to identify a number of directions that should be promoted in cooperation with Central Asian countries.
"We are ready to cooperate with you on strengthening the mechanism of strengthening the borders," he added.
Today, on June 2, the second regional meeting "Central Asia - European Union" is being held in Cholponota, Kyrgyzstan. The agenda of the event included issues of further development of constructive dialogue and practical cooperation of Central Asian countries with the European Union. As part of the meeting, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev held talks with Charles Michel.
The first regional meeting in this format was held on October 27, 2022 in Astana.
